Agro-alimentary: about fifty per cent of Verona's industrial revenue derives from the "agro alimentary industry". The principal productive sectors are: vegetable and animal fat processing, slaughtering and curing of meats, processing and preservation of fruits, vegetables and mushrooms, the processing of cereals, pasta and bread products, cocoa and chocolate, sweets and ice cream, animal feeds, ethyl alcohol production, brandy and liquor distillation, the wine industry and the dairy industry.
Marble: numerous Veronese "masters of marble" produce real artistic pieces in their workshops which are concentrated in the Valpolicella and Valpantena areas.
Period-styled furniture : the area south of Verona called "Basso veronese" shows the largest concentration of period-styled furniture in the country. They are reproductions of original Italian and European old furniture from 15th to the 19th century: 3.000 craftshops spread in 15 municipalities and attended by 10.000 workers along the 120-mile "Furniture -Route".
Gastronomia: Verona has always had a great tradition for good food and all the typical dishes of the Veneto region can be found here. Typical dishes are: bolied beef with "peara' sauce" (made of bread and pepper), "gnocchi" (potato dumplings) with butter or Parmesan cheese, tomato sauce, "pastissada de caval" (horsemeat that has stewed for a very long time in a special broth), pasta e fagioli (pasta and beans). Veronese typical cakes are the "Pandoro di Verona"and "Natalino" (they are both special Christmas cakes), shortbread and "sfogliatine" (special flaky pastry biscuits).
